The AI Engineer's Handbook
Mastering Python, ML, DL, NLP and GenAI.
by Amol Katkade
A ground-up Python book that carries on into AI. Five sections take you from "what is Python" through core and advanced Python into specialised applications across ML, deep learning, NLP and generative AI, ending in real-world projects. It is the foundations book — the one that makes the others readable.
- Sections 1–2: Python from your first program to core programming
- Section 3: Advanced Python — the parts AI code actually leans on
- Section 4: Specialised applications across ML, DL, NLP and GenAI
- Section 5: Real-world projects, start to finish

From the opening pages
Becoming an AI engineer is less about any single tool and more about a stack of skills that compound: solid programming foundations, an understanding of data and models, and the system-design judgement to put them together in production. This handbook lays out that path step by step — from Python fundamentals through core programming, data handling, and applied AI — so you can build a durable career, not just chase the trend of the week.

Why this book exists
A ground-up Python course that carries on into ML, deep learning, NLP and GenAI — the foundations book, not the career book.
Most AI material assumes Python you have not written yet, and most Python material stops before anything resembling AI. This closes that gap in one book: five sections from "what is Python" through to real-world projects.
Who this is for
- Beginners who need Python before they can attempt anything AI
- Career changers starting from close to zero
- Self-taught developers with gaps in the fundamentals
Who should not buy it
- Experienced Python developers — the first three sections will be familiar
- Readers wanting a job-hunting or interview-preparation guide; despite the title, this is a technical course
- Anyone looking for AI system-design patterns
What is actually inside
Read from the PDF itself — 178 pages, not written for this page.

What you will be able to do
- Write Python confidently, including OOP, modules and error handling
- Move from language fundamentals into ML, DL, NLP and GenAI
- Complete the real-world projects in the final section
What you get
- 178 pages across five sections
- Python from installation through advanced topics

What you need first
- None. It starts at installing Python.

Questions about The AI Engineer's Handbook
The title says AI Engineer. How much of it is Python?
A substantial part. Sections one to three are Python fundamentals, core programming and advanced topics; the later sections move into specialised applications and projects covering ML, DL, NLP and GenAI. If you already write Python well, most of the value is in the back half.
Is this a career or interview guide?
No, and it is worth being clear because the title suggests otherwise. It is a technical course. There is no interview preparation or resume material in it.
Where should I start if I have never programmed?
Here. It is the only book in the catalogue that assumes nothing.
What to read next
Chosen because they follow on, not because they are also for sale.
